UNH MISTAKES LEAD TO 62-58 ALBANY VICTORY

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Albany Great Danes took advantage of 20 turnovers by the New Hampshire Wildcats and scored the final nine points of the game to earn a 62-58 victory Saturday afternoon in America East women's basketball action at the RACC.

With UNH up 58-53 with 2:13 remaining in the second half, the Danes came back thanks to six points by Sherri Mikus in the final two minutes. Albany took the lead for good on a three-pointer by Gia Sanders with 36 seconds left on the clock.

The Wildcats fell behind 31-22 with 2:30 left in the first half, but then scored the next 11 points, taking a 33-31 lead early in the second half on a three-pointer by Lindsay Adams (Theresa, N.Y.) After trading baskets for the next couple of minutes, UNH outscored Albany 11-1 to take its biggest lead at 46-38 halfway through the second half.

Danielle Clark (Corinna, Maine) hit the 20-point mark for the fifth time this season, scoring 20 points and pulling down seven rebounds to lead the Wildcats. Coming off the bench, Ray Williams (Mississauga, Ontario) scored 13 points, while Adams and Ashley Cerniglia (Pittsford, N.Y.) each pitched in eight points.

Sanders led Albany (5-10, 1-3 America East) with 17 points, five blocked shots, and six steals, plus she grabbed six rebounds. Sherri Mikus scored 16 points, dished out six assists, and earned three steals, while Kirsten Peterson contributed ten points, eight rebounds, three blocked shots, and three steals to the victory.

In addition to the 20 turnovers, second most in a game for UNH this season, the Wildcats shot only 35.1 percent from the field. New Hampshire did earn 39 rebounds, including 18 offensive boards, and shot 81.3 percent from the free throw line.

New Hampshire (10-6, 2-3 America East) returns to action Wednesday, January 25, against the Hartford Hawks in Connecticut. The next home game for the Wildcats is Saturday, January 28, against the Vermont Catamounts.
