DURHAM, N.H. - Senior Anna Matthias (Guilford, Conn.) had 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team to a 70-32 exhibition victory over Bishop's University Sunday night at Lundholm Gymnasium.
UNH stormed out to a 22-7 advantage midway through the first half and never looked back in earning the victory. Both teams showed obvious early-season rust, committing a combined 61 turnovers. The Wildcats were better in the shooting department, shooting just over 41 percent from the field for the game. Heidi Plencer (Hampton, NH) finished with 13 points for UNH, including 3 of 7 from the arc. Plencer also had a team-high five steals. Other standouts for UNH included Colleen Mullen (Chelmsford, Mass.), who had 10 points and six assists and Maren Matthias (Guilford, Conn.) with six points and eight rebounds.
Melissa Lemay, France Lanoie and Cathy Charbonneau each had six points for the Gaiters. UNH plays one more exhibition next Sunday against the Basketball Travelers before opening the regular season against Morgan State University at the Seton Hall Tournament, Nov. 16 at 8 p.m. Game time at Lundholm Gymnasium Sunday is 5 p.m.
