WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CRUISE PAST DARTMOUTH, 81-58

DURHAM, N.H. - Led by a career-high 25 points from junior Anna Matthias (Guilford, Conn.), the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team posted an 81-58 victory over intra-state rival Dartmouth College 81-58 here at Lundholm Gymnasium this afternoon. New Hampshire improved to 2-1, while the Big Green fell to 0-3.

Matthias was one of four players in double figures for the Wildcats. Kim Kassik (Kitchener, Ontario) had 19 points and tied her career high of nine rebounds, while Heidi Plencner (Hampton, N.H.) had 18 points in just 17 minutes of action. Kelly Donohue (Rochester, N.H.) had 10 points while dishing out five assists.

Katharine Hanks (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Big Green, while Jennifer Johnston (Conneaut, Ohio) had 10 points.

After trading baskets early, UNH, which never trailed in the contest, went on a 10-2 run capped by a Plencner three-pointer with 9:01 left in the first half to take a 22-12 lead. The visitors would pull to within four with 7:04 left in the half but that would be as close as they would come as the Wildcats took a 41-32 lead into halftime.

Using full-court pressure, the Big Green would close to within three, 43-40, on a Johnston basket with 16:32 to play. The 'Cats would then go on an 11-0 run capped by a pair of Plencner treys to make it 54-40 with 14:08 left. Dartmouth would come no closer than 11 points the rest of the way.

The Wildcats will hit the road for their next three games, with the next game at Harvard on Tuesday (11/28). Game time is 7 p.m.
