DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore forward Aubrey Danen (Oconomowoc, Wisc.) recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the University of New Hampshire women’s basketball team to Friday night’s 56-52 victory against Drexel University at Lundholm Gymnasium.
The game was tied, 45-45, with 3:07 to play when Drexel’s Mikki Miller (15 points, 13 rebounds) hit a layup, but consecutive baskets by Danen gave the Wildcats a 49-45 advantage with two minutes remaining. Senior center Orsi Farkas (Budapest, Hungary; 11 points, six rebounds) made two field goals and sophomore point guard Kiki Proctor (Harrisburg, Pa.) made three foul shots in the final minute to secure the victory.
New Hampshire (11-12 overall, 6-8 America East) built the largest lead of the game at 38-24 by scoring the initial five points of the second half. The Dragons, who lost their ninth straight game to fall to 8-17 overall and 4-11 in the conference, reeled off 10 unanswered points to close within 38-34. They eventually tied the game, 41-41, with 7:44 on the clock.
The ‘Cats, who never trailed in the game, led 16-11 midway through the first half and led by as many as 10 points (23-13 and 30-20) before taking a 33-24 advantage into the locker room.
Drexel also received a strong effort by Heather McGinty, who recorded 12 points and six rebounds.
UNH concludes its two-game homestand Feb. 20 against Hofstra University. Game time at Lundholm Gymnasium is 1 p.m. The regular season concludes March 2 vs. Hartford. Game time at Lundholm Gym is 7 p.m.
