BOSTON – Junior Wesley Dinnan (Juneau, Alaska) and seniors Ben Jenkins (Francestown, N.H.), Nick Decrescenzo (New Milford, Conn.) and Brent Powers (Remsen, N.Y.) all placed inside the top 20 to lead the University of New Hampshire men’s cross country team to a second-place finish at the 47-team New England Championships on Saturday afternoon at Franklin Park.
The Wildcats, who came into the race ranked ninth in New England, finished with 89 points, trailing only the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, which tallied 79 points.
Dinnan, who finished 10th, completed the course in 25 minutes, one second and was separated from fourth place by just seven seconds, while Jenkins finished in 11th just one second later at 25:02. Decrescenzo and Powers finished 14th and 15th, respectively, separated by only one second at 25:03 and 25:04. The four were all named to the All-New England Team for finishing in the top 25 of the 316-runner field.
Junior Josh Kearns (Ridgefield, Conn.) placed 39th in a time of 25:29, while fellow juniors Wesley Moseman (Remsen, N.Y.) and Patrick Rush (Nashua, N.H.) rounded out the UNH runners at 89th and 191st, respectively. Moseman finished in 26:07, while Rush crossed the line at 27:11.
The Wildcats return to action Saturday, Nov. 1 when they compete at the America East Championship at Oregon Ridge Park.
