DURHAM, N.H. – Seniors Spencer Shaw (Hampton, N.H.) and Reed Liset (Dover, N.H.) each posted a pair of first-place finishes to lead the University of New Hampshire men’s outdoor track & field team at the Wildcat Invitational II at the Reggie F. Atkins Track on Saturday afternoon.
Bowdoin College was the other collegiate team to compete in the non-scoring meet.
Shaw was first in the long jump with a leap of 7.26 meters, and then won a track event, placing first in the 100 meters in 11.40 seconds. Senior Marcus Boggis (Milford, N.H.), sophomore Wesley Cotnoir (Auburn, N.H.) and junior Frank Radlof (Milford, N.H.) finished second, third and fourth, respectively, with times of 11.40, 11.66 and 11.69 seconds.
Liset, meanwhile, recorded a first-place finish in the discus with a throw of 46.88 meters, and in the hammer throw with a toss of 54.80 meters. Senior Jeff Kaste (Atkinson, N.H.) was second in the discus with a mark of 42.15 meters. In the hammer, juniors Matt Powers (Harpswell, Maine) and Paul DeTurk (Durham, N.H.), Kaste and sophomore John Randall (Boscawen, N.H.) finished second, third, fourth and fifth, respectively, with throws of 53.83, 53.70, 50.83 and 49.96 meters.
Sophomore Brice Paey (Milton, N.H.) won the shot put with a throw of 17.36 meters. Kaste and Randall placed second and fourth, respectively, with marks of 15.84 and 13.77 meters.
Senior David Dreyer (LeRoy, N.Y.) finished first in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.40 meters, while junior John Donaghy (Sutton, N.H.) was second at 3.80 meters.
Senior Pat Casey (South Yarmouth, Mass.) submitted a first-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 2.00 meters. Junior Anders Nordquist (Wolfeboro, N.H.) and freshman Renrick Pesce (Bristol, Conn.) were third and fourth, respectively, with marks of 1.85 and 1.70 meters.
Pesce and Nordquist finished first and third, respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles in times of 16.42 and 18.68 seconds. Sophomore Alex Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass.) placed first in the 400-meter hurdles in 54.31 seconds.
Senior Marc Ouellette (Hopkinton, N.H.) was first in the 3000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:38.23. Freshman Alex Beaulieu (Merrimack, N.H.) and sophomore Mike Peabody (Londonderry, N.H.) finished second and fourth, respectively, with times of 10:12.18 and 10:21.80.
Freshman Sean Mitchell (Concord, Calif.) took first in the 200 meters in 22.58 seconds. Cotnoir, Boggis and Shaw were third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in times of 23.64, 23.82 and 23.85 seconds.
Junior Wesley Moseman (Remsen, N.Y.) won the 5000 meters in a time of 15:36.21.
Junior Josh Kearns (Ridgefield, Conn.) placed first in the 1500 meters in 3:56.39. Classmate Wesley Dinnan (Juneau, Alaska) and senior Brent Powers (Remsen, N.Y.) were third and fourth, respectively, in times of 3:58.91 and 4:00.86.
Senior Cale Dubay (Caribou, Maine) finished first in the 800 meters in 1:55.93, while sophomore Jacob McDougle (Walpole, N.H.) was fourth at 1:59.32.
The Wildcats’ 4x400-meter relay team captured first place with a run of 3:24.48. The 4x100 squad was second in a time of 43.20 seconds.
Senior Bobby Edgerton (Cornish, N.H.) finished second in the 400 meters in 51.37 seconds.
Back in the field, junior Brett Clark (Merrimack, N.H.) placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 12:65 meters.
In the javelin, sophomore Matthew Pelchat (Lancaster, N.H.) and senior Trevor Messineo (Concord, N.H.) were third and fourth, respectively, with marks of 47.15 and 42.09 meters.
The Wildcats return to action April 14-15 for the Holy Cross Heptathlon at the Hart Track.
