DURHAM, N.H. – The 4x400-meter relay team placed third and junior Matt Begley (Brookeville, Md.) submitted a fifth-place finish to help lead the University of New Hampshire men’s outdoor track and field team to an 11th-place finish at the 38-team New England Outdoor Track and Field Championship that was held at Reggie F. Atkins Track on the campus of UNH on May 8-10.
The Wildcats tallied 22 points at the meet, which was won by the University of Rhode Island.
The Wildcats’ 4x400-meter relay team placed third in a time of 3:17.27. The 4x800-meter relay team was seventh in 7:49.65.
Begley finished fifth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.65 meters.
Fellow junior Pat Casey (So. Yarmouth, Mass.) placed sixth in the high jump with a leap of 1.95 meters, the third best mark of the day.
Senior Ben Stein (Canton, Mass.) placed seventh in the 400-meters in 49.63 seconds.
Senior Dan O’Hara (Needham, Mass.) finished seventh in the decathlon after compiling 5,582 points. O’Hara finished third in the high jump with a leap of 1.82 meters, third in the 400-meters with a time of 53.76 seconds, fourth in the shot put with a toss of 11.70 meters, fourth in the discus with a throw of 30.50 meters and fourth in the 1,500-meters in a time of four minutes, 39.06 seconds.
Freshman Alex Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass.) placed seventh in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.31 seconds.
Sophomore Will Brehm (Pembroke, N.H.) finished eighth in the 100-meters in 11.71 seconds.
Freshman Brice Paey (Milton, N.H.) placed eighth in the shot put with a throw of 15.30 meters.
Senior Matt O’Connor (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) ran to a ninth-place finish in the 1,500-meters in a time of 3:55.27.
Junior Nick Decrescenzo (New Milford, Conn.) was 10th in the 10,000-meters in a time of 31:32.46.
Junior Spencer Shaw (Hampton, N.H.) placed 10th in the triple jump with a leap of 13.67 meters, and 13th in the long jump at 6.48 meters.
Senior Jesse Kearns (Ridgefield, Conn.) finished the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 12th place after completing the event in 9:47.71.
The Wildcats return to action May 17-18 at the IC4A championships at Weaver Track on the campus of Princeton University.
