DURHAM, N.H. – Juniors Matt O’Connor (Rhinebeck, N.Y.), Patrick Casey (So. Yarmouth, Mass.) and David Dreyer (LeRoy, N.Y.), as well as the 4x100-meter relay team, all won events to lead the University of New Hampshire men’s outdoor track & field team at Saturday’s Wildcat Invitational I at Reggie F. Atkins Track.
O’Connor raced to a first-place finish in the 1,500-meters in a time of three minutes, 56.37 seconds. Senior Jordan Horwitz (Evanston, Ill.) placed second in a time of 3:58.17, while sophomore Wesley Dinnan (Juneau, Alaska) and junior Brent Powers (Remsden, N.Y.) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Dinnan finished in 4:00.86, while Powers crossed the finish line at 4:01.81.
Patrick placed first in the high jump with a leap of 2.04 meters. Senior Daniel O’Hara (Needham, Mass.) was fourth with a jump of 1.78 meters.
Dreyer grabbed first in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.50 meters.
The Wildcats took up the top two spots in the 4x100, with their ‘A’ team finishing in 42.78 seconds and their ‘B’ team finishing in 44.30 seconds. The ‘Cats finished second in the 4x400 in a time of 3:30.16.
Sophomore Tyrone Stewart (Exeter, N.H.) notched a pair of second-place finishes. Stewart produced leaps of 6.39 meters in the long jump and 12.68 meters in the triple jump. Freshmen Mike Simon and Benjamin Casey (Merrimack, N.H.) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the long jump with distances of 6.17 and 6.05 meters.
Sophomore Will Brehm (Pembroke, N.H.) was second in the 100-meters, finishing in 11.02 seconds. Freshman Wesley Cotnoir (Auburn, N.H.) and junior Spencer Shaw (Hampton, N.H.) finished sixth and seventh, respectively in times of 11.45 and 11.55 seconds. Brehm was also fifth in the 200-meters in a time of 22.49 seconds. Senior Travis Parker (Fairfax, Va.) placed sixth in 22.52 seconds.
Junior Trevor Messineo (Concord, N.H.) and sophomore Chris Morgan placed second and third, respectively, in the javelin with distances of 51.15 and 50.39 meters.
Senior Ben Stein (Canton, Mass.) placed second in the 400-meters in 51.52 seconds, while junior Ben Jenkins (Francestown, N.H) was fourth in 52.00 seconds.
Senior Jesse Kearns (Ridgefield, Conn.) finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:47.27, while sophomore Nathan Bassett (Northwood, N.H.) placed third in 9:57.71.
In the 10,000-meters, freshmen Andrew Dionne (Westerly, R.I.) and Timothy Mallard, sophomore Patrick Rush (Nashua, N.H.) and freshman Mike Peabody (Londonderry, N.H.) finished second, third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Dionne finished in 33:20.52, Mallard in 33:30.33, Rush in 33:40.17 and Peabody in 34:28.68.
Freshman Alexander Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior Jeff Lopardo (Cranston, R.I.) placed third and fifth, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles. Macleod finished in 57.62 seconds, while Lopardo finished in 1:01.28.
Junior Nicholas Decrescenzo (New Milford, Conn.) placed fourth in the 5,000-meters in a time of 15:32.40.
Sophomore Matt Powers (Harpswell, Maine) came in fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 47.17 meters.
In the shot put, junior Jason Martin (Manchester, N.H.) and freshman Brice Paey (Milton, N.H.) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with tosses of 13.64 and 13.25 meters.
Freshman Sean Donlan (Andover, Mass.) placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 37.80 meters.
Junior Cale Dubay (Caribou, Maine) was fifth in the 800-meters, finishing in 2:01.54.
The Wildcats return to action Saturday, April 12 at 11 a.m. at the Wildcat Invitational II at Reggie F. Atkins Track.
