– Junior Reed Liset (Dover, N.H.) of the University of New Hampshire men’s outdoor track team set a new school record in the discus, taking home first place honors, as the Wildcats captured second place at the University of Massachusetts Nine-Team Invitational on Saturday.
            The Minutemen won the meet with 147 points with UNH second with 126 and Connecticut was third overall with 64 points.
            Liset scored the first place win on a throw of 165-1. The Wildcats continued their season long success in the throwing events as Chris Morgan earned a win in the javelin (187-3) and senior Josh Edwards (Pelham, N.H.) captured a third in the shot put (46.5.25). In the other field events, junior Matt Begley (Brookeville, Md.) posted a win in the pole vault (15-7), posting a season-high in the process. Second place in the high jump belonged to sophomore Patrick Casey (So. Yarmouth, Mass.) with a leap of 6-3.25.
            In the sprinting events, freshman William Brehm (Pembroke, N.H.) raced to a win in his season debut in the 400 meters, posting an impressive time of 48.85, while fellow Pembroke, New Hampshire native, Cody Blake, earned a second place in the 400-meter hurdles (54.98). Graduate student Matt Russell (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) cruised to a second place in the 3000-meter steeplechase (9:29.14).
The Wildcats return to the oval on Saturday (May 5) at UMBC in search of a conference championship. Check back to for a preview of the America East Championships on Tuesday.
