DURHAM, N.H. - Senior captain David Benedetto (Alton, N.H.) recorded two first-place finishes to lead the University of New Hampshire men's track and field team to a successful final meet at home before the America East Championships. The Wildcats hosted several teams at the Wildcat Invitational III on Saturday, April 29 at the Reggie F. Atkins Track and Field Facility.
Benedetto took first place in both the 110-meter hurdles and the 400m hurdles with times of 15.31 and 54.83 seconds, respectively. James Myles (Merrimack, N.H.) finished just behind his teammate in the 110m hurdles in 15.43, while Daniel Randlett (Exeter, N.H.) finished the 400m hurdles in 58.29 to grab third place.
The Wildcats also dominated in the distance events. Jesse Kearns (Ridgefield, Conn.) was the winner of the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:51.25, while teammates Matt Russell (Ogdensberg, N.Y.) and Jordan Horwitz (Evanston, Ill.) took first and second in the 1500m run with times of 3:59.36 and 4:01.01.
The Wildcats were strong in the field events with senior Erik Lundquist (Londonderry, N.H.) taking first in the discus throw with a mark of 151 feet-7 inches. Joshua Edwards (Pelham, N.H.), Lundquist, and Reed Liset (Dover, N.H.) took first, second and third in the shot put with marks of 50-0, 48-10.25 and 48-0.5, respectively. Liset also took first with a distance of 171-3 in the hammer throw. In the pole vault, Van Truong (Shrewsbury, Mass.) grabbed first place with a height of 13-9.35 and David Dreyer (LeRoy, N.Y.) took second at 13-3.5. Myles and Spencer Shaw (Hampton, N.H.) finished second and third in the long jump with marks of 22-2.5 and 21-11.5, respectively.
