DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire men's track and field team shined once again at their second non-scoring Wildcat Invitational on Saturday, April 15. The meet featured several schools including Dartmouth College, University of Rhode Island, University of Vermont, Central Connecticut State University, Quinnipiac University and Colby-Sawyer College.
In field events, the men performed at their usual best, led by sophomore Reed Liset (Dover, N.H.), who won the hammer throw with a mark of 51.94 meters and grabbed third in the discus throw behind senior Erik Lundquist (Londonderry, N.H.), who finished second in the event. The men's shot put was also a strong event, and the Wildcats finished second, third, and fifth through seventh with senior Josh Edwards (Pelham, N.H.) throwing the top UNH mark for second at 14.61m.
The men also dominated the long jump with freshman Spencer Shaw (Hampton, N.H.) winning the event at 6.55m followed by sophomore James Myles (Merrimack, N.H.) taking second and Shin Horiuchi (Lexington, Mass.) coming in fourth. In the high jump, the 'Cats finished second through fifth led by freshman Casey Patrick (Meredith, N.H.) at a height of 1.87m.
In distance events, Matt Russell (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) won the men's 3000m steeplechase followed by a close second by freshman Matt O'Connor (Rhinebeck, N.Y.). Jordan Horwitz (Evanston, Ill.) won the 5000m run in convincing fashion with a 25-plus seconds lead over his closest competitor. In the 1500m, Ben Danton (New Milford, Conn.) won the event with a time of 3 minutes, 53.38 seconds.
The Wildcats also won the 400m dash and the 110m hurdles by Travis Parker (Charlton, Mass.) and David Benedetto (Alton, N.H.), respectively. James Myles finished second behind his teammate in the 110m hurdles and took fifth in the 100m dash. Sophomore Robert Simpson (Brockton, Mass.) finished behind Myles in the 100m dash, but took second in the 200m dash with a time of 22.16 seconds.
