DURHAM, N.H. -- Travis Parker, Taylor Scull (Bedford, N.H.), Greg Taylor (Allentown, Pa.) and Brandon Williams (Hooksett, N.H.) recorded first-place finishes to lead the University of New Hampshire men's track and field team to Saturday afternoon's victory at the Wildcat Invitational III, which was held at the Reggie F. Atkins Track and Field Facility.
UNH compiled 149.50 points to defeat the University of Connecticut (138 points), Harvard (121.5), Massachusetts (108.50), Maine (91) and Boston College (77.50).
Parker led a trio of Wildcats who finished among the top eight in the 200 meter dash. He was clocked in 22.23 seconds, while John Landrebe (S. Hampton, N.H.) placed sixth in 22.79 and David Ciasulli (Hampton, N.H.) followed in eighth at 22.88.
Scull bested the field of 12 runners in the 400m with a time of 50.68 and Jonathan Vandale (Shelburn Falls, Mass.) earned sixth place in that event at 53.72. Williams was just one of two runners to run a sub-two minute 800m in a strong wind – 19 runners entered the event with a sub-two minute seeding – and was first to cross the finish line in 1:59.53. Erik Travis (Durham, N.H.) placed sixth in the 800m at 2:01.48 and was followed by Robert Stiles in 2:01.71. Taylor recorded a distance of 14.87 meters to win the triple jump. Wildcat teammate William Field (Rochester, N.H.) took fifth place at 13.02m.
UNH recorded five second-place finishes on the day, including one by the 4x400m relay team. Craig Lange (Manchester, N.H.) earned points in three events, including a second-place finish in the 100m (10.93). He was also fourth in the pole vault (3.75m) and sixth in the long jump (5.65m). Tyler Danen (Oconomowoc, Wisc.) cleared a height of 1.85m to take second place in the high jump, while Van Truong (Shrewsbury, Mass.) recorded the second-best effort in the pole vault at 4.05. UNH's other second-place finish was produced by Anthony Truax (Dover, N.H.) in the 1500m, as he was second to cross the finish line in 4:04.92.
Three other Wildcats followed Lange in the top eight of the 100m. Horuichi Shin (11.01) edged out teammate Travis Parker (11.02) for fifth place and Ciasulli took eighth in 11.30.
David Benedetto (Alton, N.H.) earned points in both hurdle events with the fourth-fastest time (15.54) in the 110m hurdles and fifth place in the 400m hurdles (1:04.05). David Doiron (Sanford, Maine) was eighth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 17.86.
In other field events, Erik Lundquist (Londonderry, N.H.) recorded the third-best throw in the discus at 42.65m. Joshua Edwards took fifth place in that event with a distance of 38.96m, and he was the top Wildcat – eighth overall – in the shot put with a throw of 12.72m. Craig Stucchi (Southborough, Mass.) was one of the other top Wildcat performers, as he earned fourth place with a throw of 48.53m in the hammer.
