MEN'S TRACK PLACES SECOND AT HOLY CROSS

WORCESTER, Mass. - The University of New Hampshire men's track team placed second in a four-team meet held Wednesday (April 24) on the campus of Holy Cross. Rhode Island captured the meet with 147 points, with UNH (120), Holy Cross (116) and Quinnipiac (13) following.

The Wildcats took home first place in a pair of events on the afternoon. John Landerbe (Hamilton, Mass.) captured top honors in the 400-meter run with a time of 50.33 seconds. Nathan Leveille (Atkinson, N.H.) was first across the finish line in the steeplechase, registering a time of 9-minutes, 42.13-seconds to best teammate Ben Tobin (West Hartford, Conn.) by 15.83 seconds.

Ed Pomerleau and Matthew Barry finshed 2-3 in the pole vault, with Pomerleau recording a vault of 14-feet, six inches. Ben Blakesley (Newton, Pa.) and Steffan Kelsey were second and third in the javelin, respectively, with Blakesley registering a toss of 176-feet, three inches. Tim Perry (Bethel, Conn.) and Steve Meinelt (Topsfield, Mass.) were 2-3 in the 5000, with Perry (15:00.06) besting Meinelt by over 38 seconds.

Other top Wildcats on Tuesday included Greg Taylor (Allentown, Pa.), who placed second in the triple jump (43-8.50), while Tim Wright (Londonderry, N.H.) was runner-up in the 800 (1:58.56). Taylor Scull (Bedford, N.H.) came home second in the 200 (22.27). The 4x100 (44.29) and 4x400 (3:29.25) relay teams also finished in the No. 2 position.

The UNH men's track team returns to action on Saturday (April 27) when they host Maine and Massachusetts in the Wildcat Invitational along with the women. The meet is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start in the outdoor track facility located behind the Field House.
