BOSTON – Senior Spencer Shaw (Hampton, N.H.) submitted a first-place finish and fellow senior Jeff Kaste (Atkinson, N.H.) posted a pair of top-ten finishes to lead the University of New Hampshire men’s indoor track and field team at the Valentine Invitational at Boston University’s Track and Tennis Center.
Shaw placed first in the long jump with a leap of 7.27 meters. Junior Frank Radlof was 10th with a mark of 6.70 meters.
Kaste, who was the top collegiate finisher, was second in the weight throw with a toss of 18.43 meters. Freshman Paul DeTurk, senior Jason Martin (Manchester, N.H.) and sophomore John Randall (Boscawen, N.H.) finished 12th, 16th and 18th, respectively, with marks of 15.54, 15.10 and 14.86 meters. Kaste was also seventh in the shot put with a throw of 15.12 meters. Sophomore Brice Paey (Milton, N.H.) was third at 17.67 meters.
Senior David Dreyer (LeRoy, N.Y.) was eighth in the pole vault by clearing a height of 4.26 meters.
The Wildcats’ 4x400 meter relay team produced an impressive showing by finishing third out of 49 teams in a time of three minutes, 14.30 seconds.
In the 200 meters, sophomore Gabe Dano (Merrimack, N.H.) finished fifth in 21.82 seconds, while junior Will Brehm (Pembroke, N.H.) was 11th at 22.02 seconds.
Freshman William Godfrey finished 10th in the 800 meters in a time of 1:53.28. Sophomore Jacob McDougle (Walpole, N.H.) was 29th in 1:55.76.
Freshman Sean Mitchell placed 22nd in the 500 meters in a time of 1:05.66.
In the mile, junior Josh Kearns (Ridgefield, Conn.) and senior Matt O’Connor (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) finished 23rd and 31st, respectively, in times of 4:12.95 and 4:15.23.
The Wildcats return to action Feb. 20-21 at the America East championships at the Track and Tennis Center.
