BOSTON – Senior Pat Casey (South Yarmouth, Mass.) won the high jump by breaking a school record to lead the University of New Hampshire men’s indoor track and field team at the Husky Winter Carnival on Saturday afternoon at the Reggie Lewis Center in the team’s season-opener.

Casey recorded an IC4A Championship-qualifying jump of height of six feet, nine inches.

Senior Bobby Edgerton (Cornish, N.H.) finished first in the 3,000 meters in an IC4A Championship-qualifying time of eight minutes, 16.76 seconds, nearly 30 seconds better than the runner-up.

Senior Spencer Shaw (Hampton, N.H.) placed first in the long jump at 23-0.5. Junior Frank Radlof was second at 22-10. In the triple jump, Radlof was second with a leap of 44-0.75, while Shaw was fourth at 43-1.

Senior Jeffrey Kaste (Atkinson, N.H.) won the weight throw with an IC4A Championship-qualifying toss of 61-9.75. Fellow senior Reed Liset (Dover, N.H.) was third at 53-4.25. Kaste was fourth in the shot put with an IC4A Championship-qualifying throw of 51-4.5, while Liset was ninth at 46-10.25. Sophomore Brice Paey (Milton, N.H.) was second with an IC4A Championship-qualifying throw of 56-0.5.

Sophomore Gabe Dano (Merrimack, N.H.) finished second in the 200 meters, finishing in 22.38 seconds. Dano was also fourth in the 55 meters at 6.64 seconds.

In the mile, senior Ben Jenkins (Francestown, N.H.) and junior Josh Kearns (Ridgefield, Conn.) placed second and third, respectively. Jenkins crossed the line at 4:17.66, while Kearns finished in 4:20.57.

In the 4x400-meter relay, UNH’s “A” team of Brehm, Dano, freshman Sean Mitchell and MacLeod placed second in a time of 3:22.72. The Wildcats’ “B” team of sophomore Chris Janczyk (Bristol, Conn.), senior Cale Dubay (Caribou, Maine), freshman Renrick Pesce and junior Ryan Rebstock (New Milford, Conn.) was ninth in 3:29.79.

In the 400 meters, junior Will Brehm (Pembroke, N.H.) finished second in an IC4A Championship-qualifying time of 49.20 seconds. Sophomore Alex MacLeod (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was eighth in 50.90 seconds.
Dubay was fourth in the 1,000 meters, finishing in 2:36.24.

In the 500 meters, Mitchell placed fourth in 1:05.82. Sophomore Jacob McDougle (Walpole, N.H.) was sixth at 1:06.56.

In the 800, sophomore Brian Johns and Rebstock placed eighth and 12th, respectively, in time of 2:03.69 and 2:04.20.

The Wildcats return to action Saturday, Dec. 13 at noon when they open the newly renovated Paul Sweet Oval by hosting the University of Maine.
