CAMBRIDGE, MASS— Student-athletes at the University of New Hampshire continue to excel in the classroom and as a result the Wildcats finished second in the running for the 2007-08 America East Academic Cup with an impressive cumulative grade point average of 3.12.  UNH has won the Academic Cup twice, in 1998-99 and 1999-2000.
    The University of Vermont narrowly edged out UNH to take home the hardware with a 3.14 GPA.
    The University of Maine (3.10), Stony Brook University (3.06) and Binghamton University (3.04) were the other institutions in America East to compile grade point averages of 3.00 or better in 2007-08.


STANDINGS

WESTLAKE, Ohio
– The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics recently announced that the University of New Hampshire ranks 81st out of 365 Division I schools in the NACDA Directors’ Cup standings at the end of the winter sport season.
     The Wildcats have amassed 162 points, including the 25 points they tallied during the fall season. The ski team, which stands 11th overall, provided 57 points, while the third-ranked women’s hockey team supplied 55 points and the ninth-ranked men’s hockey team kicked in another 25.


DURHAM, N.H.—The University of New Hampshire athletic department continues to excel nationally in both athletics and academics. UNH student-athletes were acknowledged this week as eight teams were honored publicly by the NCAA for their high academic achievement.

The awards are based on the NCAA’s latest multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores that were released on Thursday. These teams posted multiyear APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads nationally in their respective sports. The public recognition awards are part of the broad Division I academic reform effort.


RESULTS

BOSTON
– The 4x400 meter relay team finished ninth and set a new school record to highlight the weekend and wrap up the season for the University of New Hampshire men’s indoor track and field team at the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America (ICAAAA) Championships on March 8 and 9 at Boston University’s Track and Tennis Center.
     The squad of sophomore William Brehm (Pembroke, N.H.) and seniors Ben Stein (Canton, Mass.), Matthew Begley (Brookeville, Md.) and Travis Parker (Fairfax, Va.) finished in a time of three minutes, 13.70 seconds, breaking the old school record by nearly two seconds. The old record of 3:15.49 was set Feb. 8 at the Valentine Invitational at the Track and Tennis Center when the team beat out 51 other squads to grab first place in the event.



CAMBRIDGE
, Mass.Six student-athletes from the University of New Hampshire men’s and women’s track and field teams were recently named to the America East All-Academic team based on their athletic and academic achievements.
     Senior Jordan Horwitz (
Evanston, Ill.) and sophomore Wesley Dinnan (Juneau, Alaska) were two of the 14 athletes from the men’s side to be honored based on their on and off the field success.

BOSTON
– Senior Robert Edgerton (Cornish, N.H.) captured a New England championship in the one mile run to lead the University of New Hampshire men’s indoor track and field team to an eighth-place finish at the 33-team New England Indoor Track and Field Championship, which was held at Boston University’s Track and Tennis Center Feb. 29-March 1.
     The Wildcats’ 38 points placed them behind the University of Connecticut (168), the University of Rhode Island (72), Southern Connecticut State University (71), Sacred Heart University (50), Stonehill College (46), Providence College (46) and UMass Lowell (40). The ‘Cats finished ahead of 25 other squads.

BOSTON
– Senior Robert Edgerton (Cornish, N.H.) won two individual America East championships, fellow senior Jordan Horwitz (Evanston, Ill.) captured one of his own and the 4x400 meter relay team ran to yet another, to lead the University of New Hampshire men’s indoor track and field team to a third-place finish at the nine-team America East Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Track and Tennis Center on the campus of Boston University on Feb. 22-23.
    UNH finished with 130.50 points, while the University at Albany defended its title with 186 points and Binghamton University finished second with 142 points. The University of Maryland-Baltimore County (93.50), Boston University (88), Stony Brook University (59), the University of Vermont (36), the University of Maine (28) and the University of Hartford (16) rounded out the remaining squads.


CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The America East conference announced Tuesday that senior Travis Parker (Fairfax, Va.), of the University of New Hampshire men’s indoor track and field team, was named America East Men’s Track Performer of the Week for the week ending Feb. 18.
     Parker grabbed two of his team’s four first-place finishes at the Dartmouth Indoor Invitational on Feb. 16. Parker finished first in both the 200 and 400 meters, finishing in times of 22.40 seconds and 49.96 seconds, respectively, to lead the Wildcats to a third-place finish at the Leverone Field House.

HANOVER, N.H. – Senior Travis Parker (Fairfax, Va.) grabbed two of his team’s four first-place finishes to lead the University of New Hampshire men’s indoor track and field team to a third-place finish at the Dartmouth Indoor Invitational on Saturday at the Leverone Field House.
    The Wildcats (89) finished behind Dartmouth College (184) and Brown University (180), but ahead of the University of Vermont (51) and Quinnipiac University (17).

BOSTON – The 4x400 meter relay team placed second and senior Robert Edgerton (Cornish, N.H.) had a seventh-place finish to highlight the Valentine Invitation for the University of New Hampshire men’s indoor track and field team. The meet was held at the Track and Tennis Center on the campus of Boston University on Feb. 8 and 9 and was a high school/college/open meet.

KINGSTON, R.I.
– Seniors Robert Edgerton (Cornish, N.H.) and Travis Parker (Fairfax, Va.) and junior Matthew O’Connor (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) each won an event to lead the University of New Hampshire men’s indoor track and field team to Friday night’s second-place finish at the University of Rhode Island Mega Meet at Mackal Field House.
    The Wildcats’ 144.50 points were not enough to top URI (271.50), but were more than enough to get by the University of Massachusetts (117), Bryant University (30), Quinnipiac University (30), Rhode Island College (23) and American International College (10).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.
– Senior Robert Edgerton (Cornish, N.H.) placed first in the one mile run as the University of New Hampshire men’s indoor track and field team placed fifth at the Harvard University Invitational on Jan. 26 at the Gordon Track and Tennis Center.
    Edgerton finished the race in a time of four minutes, 10.54 seconds.


CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The America East conference announced Wednesday that freshman Gabreal Dano (Merrimack, N.H.), of the University of New Hampshire men’s indoor track and field team, was named America East Men’s Track Performer of the Week for the week ending Jan. 21.
     Dano won two events to lead his team to a dual-meet win against the College of the Holy Cross and Quinnipiac University at the Paul Sweet Oval on Jan. 19.

DURHAM, N.H.
– Freshman Gabreal Dano (Merrimack, N.H.) and senior Robert Edgerton (Cornish, N.H.) each won two events to lead the University of New Hampshire men’s indoor track and field team to Saturday’s dual-meet win at the Paul Sweet Oval.
    UNH finished with 165 points, while the College of the Holy Cross tallied 119 and Quinnipiac University recorded 47.


DURHAM, N.H. — The University of New Hampshire men's and women's indoor track and field teams will be hosting a dual meet with Holy Cross and Quinnipiac on Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Paul Sweet Oval. The following is the schedule of events:


RESULTS

ORONO, MAINE – Sophomore William Brehm (Pembroke, N.H.) scored a pair of individual wins and a first-place finish in the team relay to lead the University of New Hampshire men’s indoor track and field team to a 95-71 victory over the University of Maine on Saturday at the UMaine Field House.
    Brehm posted wins in the 500 meter run and the 200 meter dash, finishing in times of one minute, 8.1 seconds and 22.62 seconds, respectively. He was also part of UNH’s team that won the 4x400 yard relay in a time of 3:25.84.

BOSTON
– Senior Robert Edgerton (Cornish, N.H.) placed first in the 3000 meter run, to lead a successful day for the University of New Hampshire men’s indoor track and field team at the season-opening Husky Winter Carnival on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center.
     Edgerton finished the event in a time of eight minutes, 32.45 seconds.




CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A total of 203 University of New Hampshire student-athletes have been named to the 2006-07 America East Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll for earning grade point averages of 3.0 or higher during the winter and spring seasons, the conference announced Monday.
     Of UNH’s 203 honorees, 90 received further distinction to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll, which recognizes those student-athletes who earned a 3.50 gpa or higher.
