BOSTON-- The University of New Hampshire men's indoor track and field team was selected second in the preseason America East Coaches Poll that was released Thursday by the conference office.
The Wildcats garnered 56 points and two first-place votes as voted on by the nine league coaches. University at Albany was picked to win the conference with 63 points and seven first-place tallies.
The 'Cats placed third at the America East Championship last February with 102 points.
The 05-06 New Hampshire track team is captained by seniors Erik Lundquist (Londonderry, N.H.), Dave Benedetto (Alton, N.H.), Andy Van Hoogenstyn (Scarborough, Maine) and Shin Horiuchi (Lexington, Mass.).
Junior sprinter Travis Parker (Fairfax, Va.), sophomore long jumper James Myles (Merrimach, N.H.) and senior middle-distance runner Brandon Williams (Hooksett, N.H.) will also be Wildcats to watch for the upcoming season.
Parker placed second in the 400-meter event with a time of 48.22 seconds and fourth in the 200-meter event (22.03) in the 2005 Indoor Championships held at Boston University. He also broke two school records at the championship in the opening trials in the 200-meter (21.81 seconds) and the 400-meter run (47.90 seconds).
Williams finished third in the 1000-meter at 2:28.47 in last year's America East Championship.
The Wildcat track team opens its season Saturday, Dec. 3rd at the Husky Winter Carnival at Northeastern University. The meet begins at 2 p.m.
