UNH men's indoor track dominates Vermont for win

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire men's indoor track team won 16 events en route to a 118-57 victory over the University of Vermont in their final home meet of the season.

The UNH men won the 55-meter hurdles, 55-meter dash, 200, 400, 500, 800, 1000, 1500, 3000, shot put, weight throw, high jump, long jump, triple jump, 4x400 relay and the 4x800 relay.

Granite State natives powered the UNH team all day long. Tony Truax (Dover, N.H.) won the 800-meter event with a time of 1:57.34. Brandon Williams (Hooksett, N.H.) took the 1000-meter in 2:31.66. William Smith (Hampstead, N.H.) won the 500-meter run, finishing in 1:09.03 and Joshua Edwards (Pelham, N.H.) took the victory in the weight throw with a toss of 46 feet 10 inches.

Prior to this afternoon's meet on Friday evening, four members of the UNH team competed in the Valentine Classic Invitational in Boston. The team of Travis Parker (Fairfax, Va.), Robert Edgerton (Cornish, N.H.), Truax and Smith set a new school record in the distance medley relay with a time of 9:58.25, shattering the old mark of 10:05.34 set in 2002.

The Wildcats are scheduled to compete at the America East championships next weekend February 18-19 in Boston, hosted by Boston University. Meet time is 4:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
