Men’s Track and Field Finishes Sixth at UNH Wildcat Invitational II

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire men's track and field team posted 62.50 total team points and place sixth overall at the UNH Wildcat Invitational II on Saturday afternoon at the Reggie F. Atkins Track.

Freshmen Ross Hardy (North Andover, Mass.) and Daniel Deschenes (Peabody, Mass.) got things started for the Wildcats by placing in the 400-meter dash. Hardy took the victory with a time of 49.96 seconds, while Deschenes placed sixth with a time of 51.00 seconds.

Freshman Robert Biro (Rockaway, N.J.) followed with a third-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase event. Biro logged a time of 9 minutes and 50.35 seconds to claim third.

Sophomore Jeremy Wildgoose placed in the 1,500-meter race for UNH. Wildgoose recorded a personal-best time of 4:01.10 to take sixth place in the event.

The 4x400-meter relays squad of Jacob Kittredge (Amherst, N.H.), Nathan Kittredge (Amherst, N.H.), Deschenes, and Hardy followed with a second place performance. The quartet timed in at 3:23.60 to take second.

Freshman Michael Shanahan (Dover, N.H.) scored a pair of top-three finishes to lead the Wildcats in the field events. Shanahan opened competition with a third-place finish in the shot put event, logging a throw of 46 feet and 3.50 inches. Teammates Thomas Lynch (Pelham, N.H.) and Joseph McKee (Dover, N.H.) also placed in the event, taking seventh (43-08.00) and eighth (41-04.25), respectively.

Shanahan followed with a third-place finish in the hammer throw event. The freshman measured in at 157-07 to snag the third spot. Senior Jake Renaud (Lancaster, N.H.) took second in the event (162-11) and Lynch claimed eighth (139-04).

Senior Jessie Swink (Groton, Conn.) also placed in a throwing event for UNH, taking seventh in the javelin throw. Swink earned a mark of 161-03 to take the seventh spot.
