Men’s Track Earns Third Place at Outdoor Home Meet

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire men's track and field team took third place in its outdoor track opener during a home meet on Saturday afternoon at the Reggie F. Atkins Track.

Freshmen Christopher Poggi (Derry, N.H.) and Drew Piazza (Danvers, Mass.) highlighted the meet for UNH by sweeping the top-two spots in the 800-meter race. Poggi finished in first with a time of 1 minute and 54.09 seconds, while Piazza grabbed second with a time of 1:54.34. Jacob Kittredge (Amherst, N.H.) and Nathan Kittredge (Amherst) also placed in the event, with Jacob earning sixth (1:57.88) and Nathan taking eighth (1:59.21).

Sophomore D'mahl McFadden (Penacook, N.H.) also took a first-place finish for UNH. McFadden grabbed a victory in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.52 seconds. Daniel Johnson (Lancaster, N.H.) followed in seventh (16.05) and freshman Ryan Maney (Reading, Mass.) added eighth (16.51).

Maney also recorded a sixth-place finish in the high jump event. Maney posted a measurement of 5 feet and 8.75 inches to earn sixth in the first outdoor meet of his collegiate career.

Four Wildcats took top-eight finishes in the 100-meter dash. Seth Sheridan (Ahsburnham, Mass.) took fourth place in 11.21 seconds, Dylan Pelletier (Orford, N.H.) earned fifth in 11.34, Christopher DeCarlo (Derry, N.H.) snagged sixth in 11.38, and Nicholas Sullivan (Newport, N.H.) finished in seventh with a time of 11:49.

Sheridan, Pelletier, DeCarlo, and Sullivan also notched top-eight finishes in the 200-meter dash. Sheridan took second (22.89), Pelletier finished fifth (23.15), DeCarlo logged seventh (23.15), and Sullivan placed eighth in 23.17 seconds.

Pelletier also placed in the triple jump event, taking fourth place with a measurement of 41 feet and 03.75 inches.

Joseph Lemay (Derry, N.H.) followed with a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 51.91 seconds. Ross Hardy (North Andover, Mass.), Daniel Deschenes (Peabody, Mass.), and Cedric Masengere also placed in the event. Hardy took sixth in 52.09 seconds, Deschenes claimed seventh in 53.08 seconds, and Mesengere earned eighth in 55.32.

Two more Wildcats placed in the 1500-meter run. Zachary Chabot (Manchester, Mass.) and Ryan Chiesa (Stockholm, N.J.) notched fifth and seventh place, respectively. Chabot timed in at 4:09.84, while Chiesa posted a time of 4:14.26 .

Senior John Corona (Middletown, Conn.) led a trio of Wildcats that placed in the 3000-meter race. Corona logged a time of 8:52.17 to take fourth place. Joseph Jourdain (Hudson, N.H.) followed in fifth place (8:52.53), while Nathaniel Hathaway (Scarborough, Maine) posted eighth place (8:58.53).

Andrew McFarland (Nazareth, Pa.) followed with a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. McFarland timed in at 56.32 seconds, while Tyler Mulcahy (Weymouth, Mass.) posted a fourth-place finish in 56.41 seconds.

UNH received a top-eight performance from its 4x400 relay squad of DeCarlo, Tanner Kent (Amherst, N.H.), Mulcahy, and Sheridan. The quartet posted a mark of 3:29.57 to finish in third place.

The Wildcats also got two top-six finishes in the pole vault. Sophomore Bryan Morris (Rumson, N.J.) claimed fourth with a mark of 13 feet and 6.75 inches, while junior Duncan Cromwell (North Conway, N.H.) earned sixth with a vault of 13-00.25.

Five Wildcats placed in the top-eight of the shot put event. Freshman Michael Shanahan (Dover, N.H.) led the way with a fourth-place finish with a measurement of 44-11.00. Sophomore Thomas Lynch (Pelham, N.H.) took fifth (43-03.00), Jake Renaud (Lancaster, N.H.) placed sixth (45-05.00), Joseph McKee (Dover, N.H.) grabbed seventh (39-10.00), and Johnson finished eighth (39-04.00).

Junior Wyatt Berrier (North Conway, N.H.) followed with a sixth place finish in the discus throw. Berrier logged a measurement of 118-09 to take the sixth spot.

Senior George Jumpp (Manchester, N.H.) led four more UNH athletes that finished in the top-seven in the hammer throw. Jumpp logged a measurement of 183 feet to take first place. Renaud and Lynch followed in fourth and fifth place with throws of 155-01 and 147-05 respectively. Sophomore Mark Hamilton (Milford, N.H.) closed out the scoring in the hammer with a 141-05 mark.

UNH finished the meet with a pair of top-three performances in the javelin throw. Senior Jessie Swink (Groton, Conn.) and junior Jake McCabe took second and third, respectively. Swink posted second place with a mark of 168-01 and McCabe finished third by posting a toss of 164-03.
