BOSTON, Mass. - The 4x800 relay squad set a new school-record as the University of New Hampshire men's track and field team competed at day 2 of the ECAC/IC4A Championships on Saturday, March 8 at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center.
The Wildcat 4x800-meter relay squad of Drew Piazza (Danvers, Mass.), Eric Stys (Stittville, N.Y.), Steve Souza (Fall River, Mass.), and Christopher Poggi (Dover, N.H.) claimed a fourth-place finish in preliminary round in a school-record mark to highlight the day for UNH. The quartet logged a time of 7-minutes and 28.52-seconds to grab the fourth spot.
The 7:28.52 time breaks the old school record time of 7:33.13 recorded by James Anderson, Luke Miller, Kevin Greene, and Stys. The 4x800 squad will compete in Sunday's finals for a chance at a IC4A Championship.
Junior Isaiah Penn (Boston, Mass.) also competed at IC4A's for UNH, running the 400-meter dash prelims. Penn finished 14th out of 32 runners in a personal-best time of 48.56 seconds.
Fellow sprinter D'mahl McFadden (Penacook, N.H.) participated in the 60-meter high hurdles for the Wildcats, earning a 14th-place finish with a time of 8.29-seconds.
Two members of the UNH track team competed in the weight throw event at IC4As. Freshman Michael Shanahan (Dover, N.H.) claimed 13th with a personal-best throw of 58-feet and 1.75-inches, while senior George Jumpp (Manchester, N.H.) logged a measurement of 57-11.25 to grab 15th.
