Men’s Track Takes Fifth at URI Coaches Meet

KINGSTON, R.I. – The University of New Hampshire men's track and field team placed in ten events on its way to 43 team points and fifth place at the URI Coaches Tribute Meet Saturday afternoon at Mackal Fieldhouse in Kingston, R.I.

Senior George Jumpp (Manchester, N.H.) opened the meet for the Wildcats by posting a fifth place finish in the weight throw. Jumpp logged a throw of 55-02.00 feet to earn four points for UNH.

Senior Nathaniel Hathaway (Scarborough, Maine)and freshman John Cox (Rome, Ga.) followed by placing in a pair distance events for UNH. Hathaway earned sixth in the one-mile race, clocking in at 4:19.65 to take the sixth spot and three points for the Wildcats. Cox earned a seventh place finish in the 500-meter race. The freshman timed in at 1:07.07 to grab two points for the Wildcats.

Sophomore D'mahl McFadden (Penacook, N.H.) and junior Isaiah Penn (Boston, Mass.) also earned top-five finishes for UNH. McFadded took a fourth place finishes for the Wildcats in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.50 seconds to earn five points for the Wildcats, while Penn finished fourth (50.54 seconds )in the 400-meter dash to claim five points for UNH.

Steve Souza (Fall River, Mass.) and Eric Stys (Stittville, N.Y.) both placed in the 800-meter race for UNH. Souza took home second place in a time of 1:55.50 and Stys placed fifth in 1:56.62 to earn 12 points for the Wildcats.

Freshman Christopher Poggi (Dover, N.H.) earned two points in the 1000-meter race. Poggi claimed seventh with a time of 2:34.32 for the Wildcats.

Poggi and Cox also helped the distance medley earn five points in the distance medley relay. Poggi, Cox, Tanner Kent (Amherst, N.H.), and Jeremy Wildgoose (Woodstock, Conn.) finished with a time of 10:42.78 to register fourth.

Kent also earned a fourth place finish with the 4x400 relay squad. Jacob Kittredge (Amherst, N.H.), Nathan Kittredge (Amherst, N.H.), Kent, and Christopher DeCarlo (Derry, N.H.) finished with a time of 3:30.41 to take home five points for the Wildcats.
