DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's and women's track and field teams return to action Friday, Jan. 24 when they compete at the Joe Donahue Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, Mass.
The men's team enters Friday's meet following a 224-203 victory over Holy Cross in the UNH-Holy Cross Dual-Meet last Saturday. Seniors Steve Souza (Fall River, Mass) and Jake Renaud(Lancaster, N.H.), juniors John Prizzi (Wyckoff, N.J.), and Jeffrey Moretti (Guilford, Conn.), and sophomores Dylan Pelletier (Orford, N.H.) and Christopher DeCarlo (Derry, N.H.) each placed in multiple events to lead the way for UNH on the day.
The Wildcat women return to the track after a 221-.5-215.5 loss to Holy Cross at the UNH-Holy Cross Dual-Meet. Senior captain Caroline Bonsaint (Hampton, N.H.) and freshmen Alyson Messina (Plymouth, Mass.), Elinor Purrier (Montgomery, Vt.), and Hannah Kimball (Atkinson, N.H.) each placed in two events to lead the Wildcats on the day.
Senior thrower Bacall Liset (Dover, N.H.) looks to lead the women into the Joe Donahue Invitational. Liset, who placed in two indoor events last year, has already placed in four events for UNH this season. Liset opened the year with a second place finish in the weight throw and a sixth place finish in the shot put at the UNH-Maine Dual-Meet, finished second in the weight throw last week against Holy Cross.
Junior high-jumper Jessica Salley (Andover, Mass.) projects to place in the high jump at Friday's meet. Salley enters the competition following a first-place finish in the high jump (5-feet 5-inches) for the Wildcats against Holy Cross. The junior posted a season-high mark of 5-05.75 in a first place finish against Maine earlier this season.
Purrier also looks to have a good outing for UNH following two top finishes last week. Purrier notched first in the 1000-meter race, clocking in at 2-minutes and 50.62-seconds, before taking first with the 4x400 relay squad in 4:05.37.
Prizzi aims to pace the men at the invitational. The distance runner enters the meet after a pair of top finishes against Holy Cross. Prizzi took an individual victory in the 1-mile race with a time of 4:17.56, before notching a victory with the 4x800 relay team in 8:11.55.
Senior George Jumpp (Manchester, N.H), who placed in five events during the 2012-13 indoor campaign, will compete in his fourth meet of the young season for UNH. Jumpp opened the season with a second place finish in the weight throw (16.78-meters) against Maine and placed third in the weight throw (16.28-meters) at Northeastern University's Jay Carisella Carnival. The senior thrower most recently placed fourth in the weight throw against Holy Cross (15.23).
Sophomore Bryan Morris (Rumson, N.J.) will compete in the pole vault for UNH on Friday. So far this season, Morris has placed two times for the Wildcats. Morris opened the season with third (13-11.75) in the pole vault against Maine before most recently taking the second spot (14-05.25) against Holy Cross
Moretti also projects to perform well for UNH on Friday. Moretti has tallied three top-two finishes for the Wildcats already this season. He opened the year with a second-place finish in the 3000-meter race (8:28.38) at the Jay Carisella Invitational before taking first in the 1000-meter race (2:31.74) and second in the 1-mile race (4:18.94) at last weekend.
