BOSTON, Mass. - The University of New Hampshire men's track and field team competed at the Jay Carisella Carnival Saturday nightat the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass.
24 Wildcats placed in Saturday's event including earning seven top-three finishes. Junior John Prizzi (Wycliff, N.J.) earned the only individual title for UNH, as he won the 3000-meter event. Prizzi timed-in at 8 minutes and 27.33 seconds and teammate Jeffrey Moretti (Guilford, Conn.) clocked-in at 8:28.38 to sweep the top-two spots in the event.
Sophomores Christopher DeCarlo (Derry, N.H.) and Seth Sheridan (Ashburnham, Mass.) claimed sixth and eighth place in the 60-meter dash. Decarlo took sixth place in 7.16 seconds and Seridan claimed eighth in 7.27 seconds.
A pair of Wildcats took seventh place in the 200m and 400m dash events. Sophomore Dylan Pelletier (Orford, N.H.) finished seventh in the 200m dash with a time of 23.01 seconds, while freshman Andrew McFarland (Nazareth, Pa.) earned seventh in the 400m dash in 51.08 seconds.
Freshman Tanner Kent (Amherst, N.H) led five Wildcats that placed in the top-eight of the 500m dash. Kent earned second place in 1:06.92, junior Steve Souza (Fall River, Mass.) finished third (1:07.04), sophomore Tyler Mulcahy (Weymoth, Mass.) took fifth (1:07.50), freshman Daniel Deschenes came in seventh (1:07.75), and freshman Ross Hardy finished in eighth (1:08.43)
Senior Eric Stys (Stittville, N.Y.), freshmen Jacob Kittredge and Nathan Kittredge (Amherst, N.H.), and freshman David Albertini (Lunenburg, Mass.) all placed in the top-eight of thee 1,000m race. Stys took third (2:36.76), Jacob and Nathan Kittredge took 6th and 7th (2:38.11 & 2:40.64), and Albertini earned eighth (2:45.69).
Senior Cory Sinotte (Hooksett, N.H.) led a trio of Wildcats that placed in the 5,000m race. Sinotte raced to a third place finish (14:52.52), while teammates Brendan McCarthy (Mansfield, Mass.) and Samuel Gagnon (Hooksett, N.H.) earned fifth (15:01.19) and seventh (15:12.71), respectively.
Four Wildcats also placed in field events. Jake Renaud (Lancaster, N.H.) and Michael Shanahan (Dover, N.H.) placed 7th (13.09 meters) and 8th (12.96 meters) in the shot put, while George Jumpp (Manchester, N.H.) and Shanahan earned 3rd (16.28 meters) and 7th (14.47 meters) in the weight throw.
