Men’s Track & Field Strong at Tri-Meet, Valentine Invitational

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior Brice Paey (Milton, N.H.) won the shot put for the sixth time this season as the University of New Hampshire men's indoor track & field team played host to the University of Vermont and the University of Maine on Saturday in a non-scoring meet at the Paul Sweet Oval. 

Paey, who has yet to lose in the shot put this season, finished first with a personal-best toss of 60-03.00, breaking the school-record he set last week at the Dartmouth Invitational with a throw of 60-00.25. Paey has already qualified for the IC4A Championships this season and has also reached the NCAA provisional mark for the automatic qualification in the event.

Freshman Nicholas Sullivan (Newport, N.H.) was victorious in the 300 meters as he crossed the finish line in a time of 36.29. 

Sophomore Steve Souza (Fall River, Mass.) claimed the 600 meters in a time of 1:23.54. Sophomore Eric Stys (Stittville, N.Y.) and freshman James Anderson (Melrose, Mass.) finished second and third, respectively, in times of 1:23.81 and 1:23.89 to sweep the event.

Freshman Dean Bhatt (Woodbridge, Conn.) took first-place in the 800 meters in a time of 1:58.28. 

In the 1,000 meters, freshman Jeffrey Moretti (Guilford, Conn.) finished first in a time of 2:33.11, followed by sophomore Michael O'Hara (Hampstead, N.H.) and Nathanial Hathaway (Scarborough, Maine), respectively, in times of 2:37.24 and 2:40.67.

Junior Max Hoddwells (Wayne, Maine) claimed the long jump with a leap of 21-02.50, while freshman Nicholas Pesaturo (Peabody, Mass.) with a mark of 20-10.00. Hoddwells also added a first-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 44-10.75, followed by freshman Alexander Rowe (Waterville, Maine) in second at 42-08.25.

Junior Neil Baroody finished runner-up in the 200 meters in a time of 26.78, while sophomore Louis Saviano (Hampstead, N.H.) finished third in the mile in a time of 4:34.41. 

In the 55-meter hurdles, senior Renrick Pesce (New Hartford, Conn.) took second with a runner-up time of 8.07.

Junior Corey Duchemin (Manchester, N.H.) added a third-place finish in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:10.97. 

Back in the field, junior Matthew Guarente (Saugus, Mass.) finished runner-up in the high jump with a cleared height of 6-03.50.

Junior George Jumpp (Manchester, N.H.) finished runner-up in the weight throw with a toss of 55-01.50. Junior Cameron Lyle (Plaistow, N.H.) added third-place finishes in both the shot put and the weight throw with tosses of 50-04.75 and 54-10.00, respectively. 

The Wildcats' 4x400 meter relay team of Stys, Souza, freshman Aidan Kimball (Plaistow, N.H.) and Anderson finished first in a time of 3:29.12.

The 'Cats also had several athletes compete at Day 2 of the non-scoring and open Boston University Valentine Invitational. 

In the 500 meters, senior Sean Mitchell (Milford, Mass.) placed fourth overall in a field of 47 with an IC4A-qualifying time of 1:04.76.

Sophomore Kevin Greene (Silver Spring, Md.) recorded an 18th-place finish in the 800 meters, crossing the finish line in an IC4A-qualifying time of 1:52.36. Senior William Godfrey (Merrimack, N.H.) finished 27th in a time of 1:53.31, also qualifying for the IC4A Championships in the event. 

Freshman D'Mahl McFadden (Penacook, N.H.) ran to a seventh-place finish, crossing the finish line in a time of 8.36.

Freshman Isaiah Penn (Boston, Mass.) posted a 110th-place finish in the 400 meters in a time of 51.69. 

Junior Cory Sinotte (Hooksett, N.H.) placed 73rd in the mile in a time of 4:18.36.

The Wildcats next compete at the America East Championships on Feb.17-18 at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center.
