NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Graduate student Paul DeTurk (Durham, N.H.) claimed a first-place finish in the hammer throw to lead the University of New Hampshire men's track & field team on day two of the New England Championships on Friday at Southern Connecticut State University's Jess Dow Field.
With 19 points, the Wildcats are in sixth place after two days of competition while host Southern Connecticut (46) is in first heading into the third and final day on Saturday.
One year after taking second in the event, DeTurk was victorious in the hammer throw this time around with a toss of 60.91m.
Senior Mike Simon (Durham, Conn.), fresh off a fourth-straight conference title in the javelin at last weekend's America East Championships, placed third in the event with a mark of 59.51m.
Junior Daniel DeCrescenzo (New Milford, Conn.) placed sixth in the 5,000m, crossing the finish line in a time of 14:58.42.
The Wildcats wrap up the New England Championships on Saturday, May 14.
