Men’s Track & Field Solid at BU Valentine Invite, Tri-Meet

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's indoor track & field team won 10 events as it played host to the University of Vermont and the University of Maine in a non-scoring tri-meet at the Paul Sweet Oval.

In the high jump, sophomores Matthew Guarente (Saugus, Mass.) and Jason Guarente (Saugus, Mass.) placed first and second, respectively, with leaps of six feet, 4.25 inches and 6-2.25.

In the 300 meters, senior Alex Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior Gabe Dano (Merrimack, N.H.) placed first and second, respectively, in times of 36.42 seconds and 36.88.

In the 800 meters, freshmen Jake Critelli (Southbury, Conn.) and Kevin Greene finished first and second, respectively, in times of 1:58.11 and 1:58.22.

Freshman Eric Guinto (Derry, N.H.) won the 200 meters in a time of 23.96.

Sophomore Mike Marshall (Salem, N.H.) was victorious in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 7.92.

In the 3,000 meters, sophomore Patrick Taft (Hanson, Mass.) and junior Andrew Dionne (Westerly, R.I.) finished first and second, respectively, in times of 8:45.63 and 8:55.04.

Sophomore Chris Houston was victorious in the 55 meters in a time of 6.60.

Freshman Michael O'Hara (Hampstead, N.H.) placed first in the 1,000 meters in a time of 2:38.48.

The Wildcats' 4x400-meter relay team of Greene, Critelli, and freshman Sheehan Michael (Durham, Conn.) and Steve Souza (Fall River, Mass.) placed first in a time of 3:31.43. The 4x800 squad of freshman David Gervais (Nashua, N.H.), O'Hara, junior Peter Carignan (Nashua, N.H.) and sophomore Corey Duchemin (Manchester, N.H.) was second at 8:25.83.

In the pole vault, senior Anthony Vorachak (Lebanon, N.H.) and freshman Glen Ruggerio finished first and second, respectively, clearing heights of 14-0 and 13-6.25.

Sophomore Cameron Lyle (Plaistow, N.H.) placed second in both the shot put and weight throw with respective tosses of 48-6 and 53-2.75.

The 'Cats also had four athletes compete at Day 2 of the non-scoring and open Boston University Valentine Invitational.

Junior Jake McDougle (Walpole, N.H.) ran to a 13th-place finish in the 1,000 meters in a time of two minutes, 28.74 seconds.

In the mile run, senior Josh Kearns (Ridgefield, Conn.) placed 31st in the mile run in a time of 4:12.34. Graduate student Tyler Dinnan (Juneau, Alaska) was 37th at 4:14.08.

Junior Bill Godfrey (Merrimack, N.H.) finished 37th in the 800 meters in a time of 1:55.14. Classmate Sean Mitchell (Milford, Mass.) was 52nd at 1:56.30.

The Wildcats return to action Feb. 18-19 at the America East Championships at Boston University's Track & Tennis Center.
