DURHAM, N.H. -- David Schlatter (Marlton, N.J.) of the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team has been featured in the Wildcat nomination as the America East Photo of the Year, announced Friday.
The America East Photo of the Year was narrowed down to a field of 50 pictures, which included a total of nine UNH photos.
Nominations were submitted via Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #AEPhotoOfTheYear and at-mentioning America East (@AmericaEast). The nomination process began Monday, June 9 and concluded Monday June, 16.
First round voting on AmericaEast.com narrowed down the ballot to 10 photos, which included six UNH pictures. Fan voting in the semifinal round selected the three finalists.
In the final poll, Schlatter's volley attempt trumped another UNH nomination featuring the "I Believe in UNH" banner held by fans in the America East Volleyball Championship match against the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Furthermore, the photo garnered more votes over the women's track & field quartet from of the University of Massachusetts Lowell. The America East Photo of the Year received 893 votes in the final round and nearly doubling the amount over the runner-up submission from UMass Lowell (484).
The photo, captured by Michelle Bronner, senior associate athletic director for compliance/senior woman administrator at UNH, features Schlatter fending of University of Hartford's Damian Lowe under the lights at Bremner Field on Oct. 16. New Hampshire went on to down the Hawks, 2-0.
A special thanks to goalkeeper Travis Worra (Lancaster, Pa.) for nominating the conference's Photo of the Year.
