Men’s Soccer Resumes Conference Play, Hosts Stony Brook Saturday, Oct. 12 (7 p.m.)

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team will resume America East Conference action Saturday, Oct. 12, to host Stony Brook University at 7 p.m on Bremner Field. Links to live stats and video will be available on www.UNHWildcats.com

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE 'CATS: New Hampshire paused conference action briefly as it took on Brown University Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Cowell Stadium in Durham, N.H. The match was scoreless until the 64th minute when senior Ugochukwu Uche (Ann Arbor, Mich.) recorded his second goal of the season. Steven Palumbo (Kingston, N.H.) carried the ball out of the New Hampshire end and played the ball up field Erik Martel (Bedford, N.H.) in stride. Martel sent the ball to Uche who beat his defender, played it around the goalie, and shot it into the net.

Freshman goalkeeper Giovani Riello (Sao Paulo, Brazil) earned his second shutout of the season in the game as he saved all three shots faced. His record now stands at 2-2-0.

SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE: Sophomore Jesus Tudela (Zaragoza, Spain) leads the 'Cats on offense with three goals and two assists for eight points. All three of his goals have been game winners. Uche has four points on a pair of goals while Christopher Wingate (Hovik, Norway) has a matching total on one goal and two assists. Steven Palumbo has dished out three assists for three points while Aaron Smith (Loudon, N.H.) has his three points on a goal and an assist. A.J. Albers (Eagan, Minn.), Andrew Chaput (Manchester, N.H.) and Lukas Goerigk (Berlin, Germany) each have one goal for two points. Robert Palumbo (Kingston, N.H.) also has two points stemming from a goal. Martel, Byron Greenwood (Greenland, N.H.) and David Schlatter (Marlton, N.J.) each have one assist.

Travis Worra (Lancaster, Pa.) comes into the game with a record of 5-1-0 with four shutouts. His 0.32 goals against average and .923 save percentage rank him second in the nation in those two categories. He has allowed just two goals all season. Riello has started each of the four games he has played and has a goals against average of 0.75 and a save percentage of .769. 

LAST TIME OUT FOR STONY BROOK: The Seawolves fell in a non-conference game at West Virginia, 3-1, on Oct. 8. WVU opened up the game with a pair of goals in the first half, taking a 2-0 lead at the end of the first stanza. Stony Brook got on the board in the 70th minute of play with a goal by Keith McKenna, but West Virginia put the game out of reach with a goal on a penalty kick in the 78th minute. SBU goalie Carlos Villa made a pair of saves on five shots faced.

SCOUTING THE SEAWOLVES: Stony Brook is led by Will Casey on offense, who comes in with four goals for eight points. Alejandro Fritz is second with five points from two goals and one assist while Martin Giordano has four points with one goal and two assists. Mario Mesen has three points on three assists.

NEXT UP FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE: The Wildcats remain home as they host conference foe Hartford in a night match on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
