CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team was selected fifth in the 2013 America East Preseason Coaches' Poll, announced by the conference Wednesday afternoon.
The reigning America East champion UMBC Retrievers claimed first place in the poll after garnering 49 points, including seven first place votes. Stony Brook received the additional first place vote and tallied 40 points for second place. Vermont received 36 points as Hartford notched 26. The Wildcats received 25 points for fifth while Albany (21), Binghamton (20) and UMass-Lowell (7) rounded out the poll.
The Wildcats advanced to the conference finals in 2012 for the second time in three years. Including the finals, the 'Cats blanked each opponent before falling in penalty kicks to UMBC. The finished the season with an overall record of 7-7-6 and a conference mark of 2-3-1.
UNH kicks the season off at the Bradley University Tournament against the host team. The match is slated for Friday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. For more information on the men's soccer program, visit www.UNHWildlcats.com.
