MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO MASSACHUSETTS 2-0

DURHAM, N.H. - Using two second half goals, the University of Massachusetts men's soccer team defeated New Hampshire 2-0 at Lewis Field Wednesday afternoon. The win moves the Minutemen to 3-2-0, while UNH now stands at 2-3-0.

After a scoreless first half, UMass got on the board in the 76th minute when Shawn Green headed a ball from point-blank range past Wildcat keeper Shaun O'Neil (Wrentham, Mass.). O'Neil did get a glove on the ball but it deflected into the net. Dan Colwell assisted on the goal by serving a corner kick into the box.

UNH then had a prime opportunity to tie the game two minutes later. A blast by sophomore Josh Hareld (N. Kingstown, R.I.) was stopped by Minuteman keeper Bryan O'Quinn, but the rebound went to Nicola Chicco (Claymont, Del.) Chicco sent a grounder towards the net that went just outside the right crossbar.

UMass made it 2-0 at 83:23 when Yuri Morales put home a rebound from 10 yards out. Derek Rhodes had the initial shot that was knocked away by O'Neil, but the ball bounced to a wide-open Morales who found the back of the net with a low grounder.

O'Neil turned away five Minuteman shots, while O'Quinn turned away all 13 UNH shots on net. The 'Cats outshot the Minutemen 24-21.

UNH returns to action next Wednesday (9/26) when they host Providence in a 3:30 p.m. contest at Lewis Field.
