HAMPTON, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team participated in the NIKE/Portsmouth Regional Hospital Cup indoor tournament hosted at the Seacoast United Indoor Arena this past Saturday (2/24) and came away with a second-place finish in the A-Flight. The tournament featured 16 teams consisting mostly of local colleges and universities along with a sprinkling of club teams.
In their group, the 'Cats tied Norwich 2-2 before defeating Bowdoin 3-1 and conference rival Maine 4-2. Their 2-0-1 group record advanced them to the semifinals where they defeated a group of UNH alumni and seniors 5-1 to move them into the final.
UNH faced the Boston Bulldogs in the finals. The Bulldogs are a USL (United Soccer League) professional team. The Bulldogs defeated a Seacoast United club team(4-0), Amherst (6-1), New Hampshire College (2-1) and Franklin Pierce (2-1) to advance to the finals.
In the final, UNH put up a gallant effort but lost to the Bulldogs 2-1.
In B-Flight action, a Seacoast United club team, SUSC Giva, a U-17 team, advanced to the finals before falling to Odyssey Sport, a Maine U-18 team, 3-0 in the finals.
