GREENWOOD, Ind. – University of New Hampshire men's Nordic skier Per Lindgren (Pitea, Sweden) has been selected to the 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-District® Men's At-Large First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Lindgren, a junior co-captain, was feted for his combined performance in competition and in the classroom. The junior co-captain, who boasts a cumulative 3.92 grade point average as a chemical engineering major, advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team® ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced the first week of June.
"Per continues to grow and excel as a student-athlete," UNH Nordic ski head coach Cory Schwartz said. "Athletically he was one of the top 10 skiers in the East, and being named to the CoSIDA All-District At-Large Team shows he is also thriving in the classroom. We are proud of what he has accomplished and excited to see him perform his senior year."
Lindgren is a three-time member of the National Collegiate Ski Coaches Association All-Academic Team and has competed in the NCAA Skiing Championships each of the last two seasons. The Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association's All-East Second Team racer shined brightest in classic racing with a fourth-place finish in 10K at Colby (Jan. 17), a career-best third place in 10K at UNH (Jan. 24) and fifth place in the 20K at Dartmouth (Feb. 8); his top freestyle finish was 10th in the 10K free at Vermont (Feb. 2).
UNH is part of CoSIDA's NCAA Division I, which encompasses Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. Lindgren was one of 10 male athletes from his division to earn this distinction.
