Atkinson Named EISA Men's Alpine Skier of the Week
DURHAM, N.H. – UNH junior alpine skier Paul Atkinson (Toronto, Ontario) was named the EISA Men's Alpine Skier of the Week on Monday, fresh off a pair of impressive races in the Middlebury Winter Carnival on Feb. 18-19. Atkinson collected a second-place finish in the men's slalom race Friday and followed that up with a fifth-place run in Saturday's giant slalom.
With only this weekend's EISA Championships at Bates College remaining prior to the NCAA Championships, hosted by the University of Vermont from March 9-12, Atkinson is ranked second in EISA men's slalom racing and 12th in giant slalom.
Atkinson, who recorded his first career victory in the SL at the St. Lawrence Carnival on Jan. 15, becomes the first member of the UNH ski team to be feted as an EISA Skier of the Week.
UNH concludes the 2011 carnival season at the EISA Championships, hosted by Bates, Saturday, Feb. 26, and Sunday, Feb. 27. Alpine racing will take place at Sunday River in Bethel, Maine, with Nordic racing slated for Black Mountain in Rumford, Maine. For more information on the UNH ski team, visit www.unhwildcats.com.
