WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Senior goaltender Matt Di Girolamo (Ambler, Pa.) of the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week. The announcement was made Monday by the league office. Di Girolamo earns the award for the first time this season and fifth time during his career.
Di Girolamo turned away 52-of-55 shots on the weekend leading UNH to a pair of wins on the weekend. He stopped 37-of-38 shots in a 2-1 win over No. 11 Union on Friday night and followed that effort up with a 15-save performance on Saturday against Northeastern. Di Girolamo posted a 1.49 GAA and a .945 saver percentage.
Di Girolamo and New Hampshire concludes its four-game homestand with two home games this weekend. The Wildcats play host to the University of Massachusetts on Nov. 4 and then face off against the University of Maine on Nov. 5. Both games at the Whittemore Center begin at 7 p.m.
