Downing played in 34 games for the Wildcats… compiled 23 points on 10 goals and 13 assists… registered his first collegiate point, an assist, on 10/21/11 in a game against St. Cloud State… contributed a career-high four points including two goals and two assists in a 6-7 loss at Harvard on 11/22/11… had a seven point, three-game point streak from 11/22/11 to 12/02/11 including three goals… recorded the game-winning goal versus Providence on 02/03/12… netted the game-winner in a 3-2 double-overtime victory of Boston University in the Hockey Easy quarterfinals… notched seven power-play points… received Hockey East Rookie of the Month honors for November after contributing nine points… honored as Service Credit Union Student-Athlete of the Week 3/12.

Before UNH: Downing is coming off three seasons with the Westside Warriors in the BCHL… In 2010-11, he posted 70 points with 34 goals and 36 assists in 52 games, while also putting in 13 power-play goals and five short-handed goals… Downing finished second in team scoring and 15th in points for the BCHL… He was also named the Interior Conference Most Sportsmanlike Player in 2010-11, collecting only 30 penalty minutes.
