Men's Hockey's Di Girolamo Feted As Hockey East Goalie of the Month for March
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Junior goaltender Matt Di Girolamo (Ambler, Pa.) of the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team was named Hockey East Pure Hockey Goalie of the Month for March. The announcement was made April 6 by the league office. Di Girolamo earns the award for the second time this season, becoming the only multiple winner.
Di Girolamo went 3-4-0 during the month, posted a 2.59 GAA and a .920 save percentage. He allowed three goals or fewer in the final five contests including just three goals in two games at the NCAA Northeast Regional in Manchester, N.H. He was a two-time Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week during the month. Di Girolamo finished as the program's single-season save leader with 1,145 saves in 39 games. His 1,145 saves are the most by any netminder in the nation.
Di Girolamo and the Wildcats finished the 2010-11 season with a 22-11-6 overall record and qualified for the NCAAs for the 10th consecutive season. The 'Cats advanced to the Regional Finals for the third straight season, becoming the only team in the nation with postseason wins in each of the last three years.
