WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Senior forward Greg Collins (Fairport, N.Y.) of the University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team was named Hockey East Reebok Player of the Week. The announcement was made on Monday afternoon by the league office. Collins becomes the first UNH player to win this award since Mike Sislo (Superior, Wis.) earned the honor on Dec. 15, 2008.
Collins scored a pair of third-period goals to lift UNH to a dramatic 5-4 come-from-behind win over Maine on Sunday afternoon in Orono, Maine. Collins, who set a career-high with the two goals, scored twice on the power play. The senior forward, who had just one goal entering Sunday’s game, tallied a goal early in the third that made it 3-2 and eventually potted the game-tying goal with just under four minutes remaining in regulation.
UNH returns to action next weekend with a home-and-home series against Hockey East foe Massachusetts. The teams will play Friday, Jan. 9 (7 p.m.) at Mullins Center in Amherst, Mass. and Saturday, Jan. 10 (7 p.m.) at Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H.
