CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Sophomore goaltender Kevin Regan (South Boston, Mass.) registered 40 saves to help the No. 12 ranked University of New Hampshire men's hockey team to a 3-3 tie against No. 9 ranked Boston College on Thursday night at Conte Forum in Hockey East action.
With the tie UNH is now 17-11-7, 13-7-6 HE and BC is now 20-10-3, 17-7-2 HE. UNH remains in fourth place in the Hockey East standings with 32 points and trails BU and Maine by one point.
Junior forward Andrew Leach (Albany, N.Y.) scored the game-tying goal 3:11 into the third period with his fourth goal of the season. Leach scored on a wrap around going from the right to the left side of the net. Freshman forward Jerry Pollastrone (Revere, Mass.) took the intial shot and then Leach took the puck from the netfront, senior captain Brian Yandle (Milton, Mass.) also assisted on the Leach tally. Yandle recorded his 97th career point as a Wildcat on the helper on Leach's goal.
Junior forward Jacob Micflikier (Winnipeg, Manitoba) then gave UNH a 2-1 lead 1:37 into the second period with his 11th goal of the season on a rebound from a shot by Josh Ciocco (Atco, N.J.), the rebound shot by Micflikier trickled through the legs of BC goalie Cory Schneider. Then the Eagles struck back with two goals by Dan Bertram and Brian Boyle at 2:22 and 6:36 to give BC a 3-2 advantage.
Freshman forward Trevor Smith (North Vancouver, B.C.) evened the game at 1-1 when he sent in a centering pass for the right corner and the puck deflected off the stick of Dan Bertram of the Eagles. That marked Smith's ninth goal of the season and his sixth goal in the last eight games for UNH's leading rookie scorer.
Regan made his third consecutive start and the 40th start of his career. Regan totalled 13 saves in the opening period and in the third. Schneider totaled 32 saves in the tie for the Eagles.
BC got on the scoreboard first with a goal by Brian Boyle at 3:58 of the first period.
The UNH men's hockey team concludes the regular season on Saturday, March 4 against Boston College.
