No. 6 UNH men’s hockey DEFEATS MERRIMACK, 4-1
Jacob Micflikier

North Andover, MA - Jacob Micflikier (Winnipeg, MB) netted a pair of goals and Preston Callander (Regina, SK) had three assists as New Hampshire (6-2-1, 3-1-0) handed Merrimack (3-8-0, 1-6-0) a 4-1 Hockey East loss. Brian Pouliot (Hookset, NH) and Brian Yandle (Milton, MA) also scored for the Wildcats in front of 2,383 at the Lawler Arena.

Kevin Regan (South Boston, MA) was solid in the UNH net, stopping 30 shots to lead the Wildcats. UNH's scoring barrage midway through the game proved to be the difference in the first meeting between the two teams this season. The Wildcats scored three goals over a span of 3:23 midway through the game to pick up the victory.

Steve Crusco (Waltham, MA) netted the lone goal for Merrimack while goaltender Frank McLaughlin (Drexel Hill, PA) stopped 30 of 33 shots in the loss.

Crusco gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead at the 4:47 mark of the second period. The senior put back a rebound off a shot by Rob LaLonde (Williamsville, NY) for his first goal of the season. UNH answered less then two minutes later on Pouliot's first goal of the year. Pouliot walked through the slot and fired a shot past the glove of McLaughlin and into the upper left corner of the net to tie the game at the 7:40 mark.

The Wildcats then took the lead for good at the 8:55 mark when Micflickier came out of a crowd in the right circle and slipped a wrist shot between the pads of McLaughlin. Yandle gave the Wildcats a two-goal cushion at 11:03 of the middle period. The junior defenseman ripped a low slapshot from the top of the right circle that just slid under the right skate of McLaughlin.

Micflikier added insurance with an empty net goal with 58 seconds remaining in the game. It was his second goal of the game and third of the season.

UNH went 0-for-4 on the power play while Merrimack finished 0-for-2.
