LOWELL, MA (Dec. 1, 2000) - Senior LW Corey Joe Ficek (Bedford, NH) and junior RW David Busch (Toronto, ONT) each scored goals 17 seconds apart in the third period as the University of New Hampshire and UMass Lowell skated to a 2-2 deadlock Friday night in front of a season-high 4,408 at the Tsongas Arena.

The tie halted a five-game winning streak for the Wildcats (10-3-2, 4-2-1 Hockey East). The draw was also the first non-loss for the River Hawks (5-7-1, 1-6-1 Hockey East) in eight previous games against UNH. UML outshot the Wildcats 29-16, and carried a 19-4 advantage heading into the third period. The Wildcats, however, outshot UML, 4-0, in overtime.

The two rivals complete the regular season series Saturday night (7:00) at the Whittemore Center in Durham, NH.

UML opened the scoring 3:32 into the first period as sophomore C Ed McGrane (Hamilton, ONT) tucked in a shot on a two-on-one breakaway from a pass from sophomore LW Mark Concannon (Hull, MA).

The River Hawks grabbed a 2-0 cushion at 6:34 as a slapshot by senior C Brad Rooney (St. Catharines, ONT) found the net over the right shoulder of senior goalie Ty Conklin (Anchorage, AK). Freshman defenders Jerramie Domish (Pottstown, PA) and Darryl Green (Chatham, ONT) were each credited with assists.

Following a scoreless second period, Busch found the net four minutes into the third period off assists from Ficek and freshman Mick Mounsey (Concord, NH). Busch returned the favor to Ficek 17 seconds later for the draw. Freshman C Nathan Martz (Chilliwack, BC) was also credited with an assist.

Conklin registered 27 saves while junior goalie Cam McCormick (Kamloops, BC) had 14 saves for UML.
