Potsdam, NY – Junior Corey-Joe Ficek scored two shorthanded goals and classmate Ty Conklin posted 22 saves as nationally ranked University of New Hampshire shutout Clarkson (4-8-3), of the ECAC, 6-0 in a non-conference game before 3,015 fans at Cheel Arena Saturday night. With the victory, the second ranked Wildcats (14-2-1), of Hockey East, extended their winning streak to seven games and have gone unbeaten in their last 11 games (10-0-1).
UNH scored on its first two shots of the game to take the early advantage. Ficek scored his first shorthanded goal on a shot off Clarkson freshman goaltender Mike Walsh’s skate from the side of the net at 3:35. Senior Dan Enders scored on a shot from the point at 5:58.
The Wildcats went up 3-0 on their first shot of the second period when senior Mike Souza tallied a power play goal at 1:37.
Freshman John Abbott made it 4-0 at 5:37 of the third. UNH then scored two shorthanded goals into an empty net to complete the scoring. Senior John Shipulski scored the Wildcats’ fifth goal at 14:53 and Ficek scored again at 16:29.
UNH outshot Clarkson 23-22. Sophomore Shawn Grant made 17 saves for the Knights after coming in off the bench to relief Walsh, who allowed two goals on both shots he faced through the first 5:58 of play.
The Wildcats were 1-of-6 on the power play, while Clarkson was 0-of-6 with the man-advantage.
