CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Brian Benson (Rochester, N.Y.), a senior center on the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team, was named the America East Player of the Week by the conference Monday afternoon.
Benson takes home the honor for the first time in his career, registering a career-high 17 points and 16 rebounds against Suffolk University (Nov. 11), leading the Wildcats to an 85-64 victory at Lundholm Gymnasium. The impressive outing marks the captain's third career double-double, finishing the evening shooting 7-for-13 from the floor, picking up America East Player of the Game honors.
The captain earned a pair of double-doubles last season, with his most recent coming against Hartford (Feb. 27) when he posted 16 points and 15 boards. He finished the 2010-11 campaign pulling in double-digit rebounds in eight games while scoring in double-figures in three outings.
Benson and the Wildcats are back in action on Monday, Nov. 14 (7 p.m.) when they take on Boston College at Conte Forum.
