DEKALB, Ill. – Ali Carr (Chelmsford, Mass.) earned a victory on vault to headline a University of New Hampshire apparatus sweep, and Kate McGeever (Saco, Maine) posted the top score on floor exercise to spearhead a three-place event sweep as the Wildcats' gymnastics team defeated Northern Illinois, 193.2-191.875, on Saturday night at the NIU Convocation Center.
Carr scored a 9.8 on vault to notch the event victory, with Adrienne Hill (Midlothian, Va.) and Jillian Hudson (Sparkill, N.Y.) knotting for second place with a matching score of 9.75. As a team, the Wildcats outscored the Huskies on vault, 48.275-47.675.
New Hampshire earned a victory on uneven bars, 48.05-47.575, led by Austyn Fobes (Howell, N.J.), who tied for first place with a 9.8. Danielle Reibold (Horsham, Pa.) finished in third place (9.775) and Carr (9.75) placed fourth.
Balance beam belonged to the Wildcats as well, 48.2-48.15, with Kayla Gray (Buffalo, N.Y.) producing her first career victory by amassing a 9.85. Northern Illinois's Megan Melandez scored a 9.775 for second place, and Carr took third with a 9.7.
McGeever, the reigning EAGL specialist of the week, earned the high score on floor exercise for the second consecutive week by registering a 9.8. The 'Cats rounded out the top three spots with Erin Machado (Swansea, Mass.) and Fobes tying for second place with matching totals of 9.775.
