Nine Gymnasts Named NACGC/W Scholastic All-Americans

DURHAM, N.H. – Nine members of the University of New Hampshire gymnastics team have been named 2011 National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) Scholastic All-Americans, and the Wildcats ranked 17th in the nation with a cumulative 3.4567 grade point average.

Seniors Chelsea Steinberg (Ridgewood, N.J.) and Katie Caliendo (Manorville, N.Y.) wrapped up their scholastic careers by claiming their fourth consecutive awards. Steinberg, who majored in occupational therapy, accrued a 3.78 GPA while Caliendo, a kinesiology: sport studies major, posted a 3.76 GPA. Katie Lawrence (Lyme, Conn.) tallied a 3.67 GPA in biochemistry to mark her third straight year as a scholastic All-American.

Sophomore Courtney Connors (Buffalo, N.Y.), who will serve as a team co-captain in 2012, boasted a team-high 3.88 GPA as a business administration: accounting major to scholastic All-American honors for a second straight year. Junior Ali Carr (Chelmsford, Mass.), who will join Connors as a team co-captain next season, tallied scholastic All-American honors for a second consecutive year courtesy of a 3.83 GPA as a kinesiology: sport studies major. Junior Danielle Reibold (Horsham, Pa.) garnered the honor for a third straight time by collecting a 3.83 GPA as a biomedical science major.

First-time honorees are junior Kate McGeever (Saco, Maine), a junior biochemistry major who notched a 3.54 GPA, sophomore Dianna Kurowyckyj (New York, N.Y.), a health management and policy major with a 3.58 GPA, and freshman Carly Stote (Kingston, N.Y.), who earned a 3.67 GPA while majoring in kinesiology: exercise science.

UNH was the second-highest ranked New England school (Brown, 6th, 3.6093 GPA) and climbed 13 spots in the national academic rankings from the 2010 season.

The NACGC/W seeks to actively manage and develop the sport of women's gymnastics at the collegiate level and works with the NCAA and USA Gymnastics in order to provide the best possible experience for the student-athletes.
