STATE COLLEGE, Pa.— Gail Goodspeed, the 29th-year head women’s gymnastics coach at the University of New Hampshire, and associate head coach Ed Datti, were both recognized with coach of the year honors at the annual NCAA Northeast Regional banquet which took place this past weekend at Penn State.
    Goodspeed, who was named Head Coach of the Year, has earned the honor six times in her career, also earning the award in 2005, 2003, 2001, 1994 and 1991. She was at Penn State with sophomore gymnasts Helena Diodati and Taryn LaFountain, who qualified individually for the NCAA Northeast Regionals. Diodati competed on vault and bars and was 14th on vault. LaFountain captured fifth place on balance beam.
    Datti, earned NCAA Northeast Regional Assistant Coach of the year for the seventh time in his career, after also earning the award, individually, or as a staff, in 2006, 2003, 2001, 1997, 1994 and 1991.
    The award winners are voted upon by the head coaches in the NCAA Northeast Region.
