DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire gymnastics team will kick off the 2002 season with a "Meet the Team" event on Saturday, December 8. The event will take place at Lundholm Gymnasium at 1 p.m., with tickets only $7 for adults and $3 for seniors and children under 18.
The event will kick off with the 2002 squad split into two separate squads for a "Blue-White" exhibition. The two squads will compete head-to-head in all four events to gain points for their team. This annual event is highly anticipated by both spectators and team members, as it is the first opportunity for the team to show off their routines.
Following the event, the UNH gymnasts and coaching staff will host a girls’ gymnastics clinic at which girls age 6 and older will be taught their favorite flips and tricks. Cost of the clinic is $10.
The UNH gymnastics team is coming off a 15-3-1 2001 campaign which saw them make their 20th-straight NCAA Regional appaerance, where they placed fourth. Among the leading returnees for the ‘Cats and 23rd-year head coach Gail Goodspeed are 2001 EAGL Rookie of the Year Jen Dickson (Destin, Fla.) and 2000 EAGL Rookie of the Year and Verizon Academic All-District honoree Michelle Harley (Collegeville, Pa.). UNH also welcomes eight freshmen to the squad in 2002.
New Hampshire kicks off the regular season on January 10 against Rutgers. The home opener is January 19, when the ‘Cats host Rhode Island at 1:00 p.m.
