CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Meg Carroll (Mansfield, Mass.), a freshman forward on the 24th-ranked University of New Hampshire field hockey team, was honored as the America East Rookie of the Week on Tuesday.
Carroll scored her first collegiate goal in UNH's 9-1 victory at Brown University on Aug. 31. Her unassisted goal, in which she drove along the left end line and fired a shot inside the far post, at 43:07 established a 5-1 lead and ignited a 5-0 game-closing run by the Wildcats. Carroll finished the game with four shots, three of which were on goal.
Carroll's efforts at the offensive end of the field helped UNH record its highest goal output since October 2006 (9-1 win at UMBC) and highest shot total, with 39, since October 2002 (40 vs. the University at Albany).
Carroll has played in all three games of the 2012 season and was in the starting lineup each of the last two. She ranks third on the team in both shots (six) and shots on goal (four).
New Hampshire returns to action at home Sept. 7 against second-ranked Syracuse University. Game time at Memorial Field is 5 p.m.
