FIELD HOCKEY'S BOZEK REPEATS AS AMERICA EAST ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Megan Bozek (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.), a freshman back on the 20th-ranked University of New Hampshire field hockey team, was honored as America East Rookie of the Week on Monday. It marked the third time in as many weeks she received that conference accolade.
Bozek helped UNH cap an undefeated America East season with a goal in the team's 4-1 victory at Memorial Field against 15th-ranked University at Albany on Oct. 30. Bozek scored the Wildcats' goal in the 64th minute to further distance the 'Cats from Albany (it gave New Hampshire a 3-1 lead) and put the team closer to securing the America East regular-season championship. Bozek's efforts on the defensive end of the field helped limit the visitors to one goal on just five shots.
Bozek has started all 19 games this season. She has 12 points on six goals, including two goals in five America East conference games.
UNH (13-6 overall, 5-0 America East) is the top seed of the 2010 America East Championships and the University's Memorial Field will be the site of the tournament. The Wildcats face the University of Maine in the tournament opener Nov. 5 (3 p.m.). The second semifinal features Boston University and the University at Albany and the championship game is Nov. 6 (4 p.m.). Admission is free to all three games.
