RICHMOND, Va. – Dalton Crossan (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), a freshman running back on the 23rd-ranked University of New Hampshire football team, was named CAA Football Rookie of the Week on Monday. He also received that honor Oct. 21.
Crossan made the most of his three touches by scoring two touchdowns and compiling 185 all-purpose yards (51 rushing, 134 kickoff returns) in the Wildcats' 37-20 victory at the University at Albany on Nov. 16.
On his only carry of the game, Crossan ran a counter to the right, cut back sharply to the left and fended off a number of would-be tacklers for a 51-yard touchdown that extended UNH's lead to 17-0 at 13:10 of the second quarter.
Albany closed within 27-20 at 8:17 of the fourth quarter, but Crossan quickly pushed the margin back to double digits with a 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The team's previous kickoff return for a TD was Sept. 4, 2010.
In nine games this season, Crossan has compiled 683 all-purpose yards. He has 19 carries for 269 yards (14.2 yards/carry) and eight receptions for 82 yards. Crossan is also averaging 25.5 yards per kickoff return with 13 for 332 yards.
